Benefits of Karate

Shotokan Karate is a traditional martial art. This means that improvement in character and mental discipline is as important as physical skill, if not more so. Shotokan Karate is meant to be accessible to all, including women, children, and those without great athletic ability. You are encouraged to progress at your own pace. We recommend that beginners train at least two times per week.

Our program is pediatrician recommended for children. Children with special needs, such as ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) and ADHD (Attention Hyperactivity Disorder), and other learning difficulties are often recommended to participate in martial arts because of the clear benefits in its structured training techniques.

The benefits of karate training for children include developing self-confidence, respect for others, sportsmanship, and improved concentration.

For adults of all ages, the benefits of karate training are numerous. The benefits include muscular and aerobic fitness, increased perceptual awareness, body alignment balance, stress management, and empowerment.

General Class Format

• Kihon: basic techniques of clocking, punching, striking, kicking, stance and body shifting
• Kata: pre-arranged sequences of techniques done in a prescribed pattern and rhythm
• Kumite: Sparring is learned in progression. Sparring is an opportunity to practice techniques with a partner in a dynamic way
